I collect as little as I can, use it to run the site and the newsletter, and never sell it.
What I collect
Newsletter. Your email address, to send you the newsletter. The emails show me whether they were opened and which links were clicked, which tells me what readers like.
Email. Whatever you send me, so I can reply.
Site visits. Which pages get read, what gets clicked, how long people stay, how they found the site, and basic details like browser, device and rough location. I look at this in totals, not to follow anyone.
Cookies
The site uses cookies for those visit statistics, and to remember simple things, like whether you’ve already signed up so it stops asking. You can block cookies in your browser and the site still works.
Who else sees it
A few outside services help run the site, send the newsletter and count visits. They get only what they need for that job. I don’t share your information for advertising, and the site doesn’t currently run ads.
Videos, maps, podcast apps and social media sites linked or embedded here have their own privacy policies.
Your choices
Unsubscribe. Use the link at the bottom of any newsletter.
Block cookies. Use your browser settings.
The site doesn’t respond to browser “Do Not Track” signals, since there’s no common standard for them. Blocking cookies works instead.
How long I keep it
Your email address stays on the list until you unsubscribe.
Kids
This site isn’t meant for children under 13, and I don’t knowingly collect their information. If you think a child has signed up, email me and I’ll delete it.
Changes
If this policy changes, I’ll update this page, and the date at the top will show when.
